Commonly Asked Questions From Participants

I feel like I already understand the other side — better than they understand themselves. Why would I participate?

The main reason to participate is to be heard — by someone who does not truly understand how deeply this issue matters to you and why. While you will need to do some listening as well, your goal will be to speak your mind. Further, as your session may be viewed by large numbers, your participation is an opportunity for you, as a representative of the unheard voices on your side, to be seen by the public at large as you truly are.

Why We Think of Them as Heroes

Sitting across from someone who challenges and even disgusts you, where you are expected not only to speak but to understand, demands courage. And it's no secret that participants worry that some in their own communities will reject them because they "legitimized" the other side.  Yet participants in the Enemies Project have universally said that the experience was deeply satisfying, changing their understanding of conflict in general. Many shared that participating was their proudest contribution to their own community.

The exchange does not mean giving up your passion. The opposite. You air it and are understood for it. And they air theirs and are understood for it. In this space between right and wrong, you create a world you want to live in.
